about

Back to his roots! After the Babie Lato project and further development of his solo career, Jacek Latoń aka Cuefx is releasing an album together with his band again. The album called 12 bizarre pieces is a record of a Katowice's Jazzart festival gig, during which the band shared the stage with artists such as Stacey Kent, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba, Hauschka or Joe Lovano. They performed in their original lineup: Agnieszka Twardoch - vocal, lyrics, Robert Zając – electric guitar, effects; Aleksander Papierz – saxophones; Jacek Latoń – arrangement, synthesizers, samplers, effects.

12 bizarre pieces is not just an album filled with fresh pieces and new compositions, but most of all innumerable impromptu references to the band's earlier recordings, such as International Post War Chill, to mention just one. The latest album's title corresponds closely with its content. It refers to Cuefx Band's unique style based on both musical and lyrical eclecticism, melting often contrary elements into a coherent entity. The listener is exposed to a powerful emotional message through a variety of incisive components, such as jazz, electonics, abstract hip hop, and noiseu. The disturbing aura of the album is reinforced by the existentially ambiguous lyrics by Agnieszka Twardoch, often filled with oniric abstraction. The music both embeds the listener like a foggy blanket, and leads him through subsequent "pieces torn out of the context of the unreality".

"The idea was spontaneous. To me, the most important, and at the same time the strongest asset of this album is its wide variety of emotions found in the interaction between the artists and the public, during the live gig. We then managed to convey it on the recording, and that was the decisive element, absolutely" - Jacek Latoń aka Cuefx
